ENVIRONMENTAL EFFORTS

Through the Signature Program, Audubon International offers planning, technical, and educational services to help new developments protect natural resources both on and off site. By working closely with planners, architects, managers, and key stakeholders, Audubon International ensures that biodiversity conservation, environmental quality, and sustainable resource management are built into the project and continue after construction is completed. Haymaker is re-certified on a regular basis.

The following are highlights of Haymaker's environmental efforts through the Audubon International Signature Program:

  • More than 130 acres (or 54% of the property) are being maintained as unmanaged or natural open space.
  • The project preserved 30 acres of undisturbed wetlands, 59 acres of undisturbed native grasslands.
  • The project created 20 acres of wetlands and 2,400 linear feet of natualized shoreline.
  • With the increase in water bodies on site, the waterfowl population has increased to include such species such as Wilson's Phalarope.
  • Disturbed areas have been re-planted with native grasses and other plant species.
  • Exotic and invasive plant species, such as Canada thistle, have been removed.
  • Bird nesting boxes were installed to encourage species such as swallows to reproduce on site.
